Redundant and entropic features

Maximo Park - Our Velocity

Redundant features
  • The entire band is playing with the music - A performance video. This is a redundant and expected feature of the genre.
  • The clothes the musicians are wearing are the usual style of Maximo Park. For example, the lead singer is often seen wearing a black trilby
  • The musicians are very energetic in the video, which matches the pace of the song.
  • The lead singer lip-syncing is a common trait in music videos in general.
Entropic features
  • The editing in the video makes it seem like it was recorded all in a single take. This is very rare in music videos.
  • The bright colours used for the background is unusual in rock music and unexpected.
  • Having the editing make the same person on the screen multiple times at once is bizarre and entropic.

The band uses what begins as a fairly generic and redundant performance video, which is common in the genre, but turns it into a bizarre video that is extremely entropic. As the music video is all a single take, it is confusing for the viewer as it is difficult to comprehend how it works. Beginning the video upside down, with the shadows of the musicians being coloured, quickly makes the viewer realise that the video is unusual. The strange movement of the camera aids the editing and illusion of the same person being on screen multiple times at once.
